THATCHER - THE MUSICAL - Killer Idea

Perhaps now that the dust is settling, the time is ripe for Thatcher - The Musical. Or maybe even better - Denizens!

Calling all budding Andrews Lloyd Webber and Tims Rice - how about a play which tells the tragic and yet romantic story of the somewhat unrecognised and underappreciated spouse of a right wing dictator against the backdrop of the Argentinian crisis?

I can see Denis - the romantic lead, a kind of Jesus/Joseph/Heathcliff/Evita type character - a bumbling entrepreneur who is bemused by the need for greed in industry and who forms an idealized and unhealthy attachment to the Health Minister (the rebellious Brigadier-General Edwina Currie) and together they lead a coup against the ruling junta by undermining the British poultry industry - not historically accurate but this is a musical comedy, for heavens sake...

Songs such as:

Don't Cry Maggie, It's Only Argentina,
If You Were My Fella, I Wouldn't Care About Salmonella
Maggie May
Southern Islands, Northern Ireland - It's All The Same To Me
Edwina Takes It All
I Don't Know How to Love Miners
Denis Denis
Maggie's A Mystical Mephistopheles
The Poll Tax Hokey Cokey

This show has legs - and Eggs. Imagine! Cliff Richards as Norman Tebbitt, Michael Buble as John Knott, Victoria Wood as Margaret Thatcher and Cameron Diaz as Edwina Currie.

Start writing it now, before someone else does - and yes, I am available to play Denis, The Loveable Unknown Hero of the Eighties - champion of the slightly dim and the badly coiffured.
